Derek Roth-Biester is the founder of Criterion Law, a boutique corporate and commercial law firm based in Queenstown, New Zealand. His practice broadly comprises transactional advisory (buying and selling companies), investment funds (fund formation for PE, VC, property, private credit and EtA/search funds), venture capital (advising founders on getting investment-ready and raising capital) and technology (with a particular focus on digital assets and the intersection between the law and AI). Derek’s career spans three decades working for international firms in London, Hong Kong, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. Before forming Criterion, Derek was a partner at Meredith Connell and Anderson Lloyd. Derek is currently treasurer of the HKNZBA and secretary of Bitcoin Policy New Zealand.
